Clarion Call at SPILL Festival

Elaine’s voice is featured along with Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Beth Gibbons (Portishead) and Melanie Pappenheim, a women’s chorus and girls choir in Clarion Call, an art installation based at Ipswich Waterfront as part of SPILL Festival of Performance Art. These daily incantations at sunset are broadcast with audio technology employed for emergency and control, repurposed as a mechanism for public ritual.

The work was devised by Melbourne based artists Byron J. Scullin, Hannah Fox and Thomas Supple, and part of 14–18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary and uses Shirley Collins’ version of Our Captain Cried All Hands.
